I am a Maggid: a Jewish inspirational speaker who
uses stories, parables and sermons to bring people closer to the joy and passion of Judaism. I also work extensively in interfaith settings, where through storytelling and dialogue we work to illuminate the Divine in each person.
Having received s'micha (ordination) from
Maggid Yitzhak Buxbaum,
I travel around the country in the tradition of itinerant maggidim of centuries past, offering a
variety of programs for groups, synagogues and communities.
I also teach classes and mentor students remotely, via phone, Internet,
and occasional face-to-face meetings. I specialize in storytelling, midrash, and text study.
Some might call me "the Maggid formerly known as Jim:" I have adopted the first part of my Hebrew name,
Uriel, as my "official" name when functioning as a Maggid.
